Pink Floyd: Expanded Syd Barrett documentary due this spring

An expanded reissue of the 2011 documentary, “The Pink Floyd & Syd Barrett Story”, will be released via 2DVDs and digital video on May 20.

The film explores the life of the late Pink Floyd co-founder, with contributions from all band members as well as managers, friends, and others close to Barrett.

The expanded package includes the additional interview “Roger Waters On Syd Barrett”, and a second disc with bonus uncut interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright, and a performance of "Love You" by Graham Coxon.

Syd was essential to developing the original Floyd sound and identity (he named the band), having teamed up with childhood friend Roger Waters and the rest of the band in 1964 when they were known as The Tea Set. By ’67, Floyd would release their debut, “The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn”, and Barrett’s dependency on psychedelics (combined with possible mental health issues) would ultimately lead to his being fired from the band in the spring of ’68.

Syd released two solo albums in 1970 – “The Madcap Laughs” (co-produced by Waters and Gilmour) and “Barrett” (co-produced by Gilmour and Wright).

Barrett went into self-imposed seclusion, eventually moving back home with his mother, where he worked on his paintings and in the garden. A diabetic, Syd passed away in July of 2006 at the age of 60, as a result of pancreatic cancer.
