Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo will deliver the keynote address at Surf Summit 17, the surf industry’s annual leadership conference.
Set to take place May 14-17 at the Melia Cabo Real resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the event is presented by the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association and the Board Retailers Association.
Hammett is a die-hard surfer who grew up in California, while Trujillo is known as an avid surfer and skater. The pair are expected to discuss their passion for surfing, how they manage success, and what it’s like to perform with one of rock’s most legendary bands in front of millions of fans every year.
Surf Summit is an invitation-only event with invitations extended to current SIMA Regular, Board Builder and Associate members as well as BRA Regular members. Space is limited and on a first-come-first serve basis, with priority given to SIMA and BRA members.

Metallica are currently playing shows on a South American tour that wraps March 30. The band debuted a new song, “The Lords Of Summer”, on opening night in Bogota, Columbia, and are expected to play the tune during their upcoming spring and summer concert dates, which feature a “Metallica By Request” format – which gives fans the ability to vote on 17 songs the group will perform alongside the new track.
