Def Leppard recently regrouped in Dublin, Ireland to write music for a new album, and now singer Joe Elliott is sharing an update on the band’s progress and plans for the project.
“We just came out of a writing session in February with 12 new songs,” Elliott tells Billboard. “We’ve got this [KISS summer] tour, then we’ll finish the album after that. We’ve never been this busy really.”
Elliott says the band are taking full control of the album, their first since 2008’s “Songs From The Sparkle Lounge.”
“Def Leppard is producing the album, because when it comes down to it, every producer that we ever think of and talk about falls at least number two behind Mutt Lange,” he explains. “We’re not gonna get Mutt, but we worked with him for 11 years in a studio, so we know how it works. Queen made their own records. For the state of the music industry and the place that we hold in it, if we’re even in it, cause I’ve always thought we werein our own little universe, there’s no need. If we have a hit, it won’t matter who produced it… It’ll be down to the song. And we were determined to write all these songs on our own and what we’ve got going so far sounds incredible.”
Def Leppard and KISS will launch a North American tour on June 23 in West Valley City, Utah – for more details, click here.
Elliott is currently promoting “The Further Adventures Of…”, the forthcoming new album by his Mott The Hoople-inspired side project, Down N Outz.
The group were formed specifically to open a series of 2009 reunion shows for Mott The Hoople at London’s Hammersmith Odeon.
Due April 21 (April 22 in North America), “The Further Adventures Of…” is the band’s third project, following 2010’s debut album, “My Re-Generation”, and the “Live At Hammersmith Apollo” DVD recorded during the 2009 shows.
