U2’s free download of the new song, “Invisible”, has helped raise more than $3 million for the (RED) campaign.
In sync with its debut during the Super Bowl 48 broadcast on Sunday, U2 offered a 24-hr free download of the track, with sponsor Bank Of America donating $1 per download to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which provides life-saving HIV/AIDS treatment, testing and prevention services to tens of millions of people in the world's poorest countries.
U2 are continuing to support the cause, as “Invisible” is released for sale, with all proceeds from every iTunes download going to fight AIDS.
(RED) has already generated more than $240 million for the Global Fund since being founded in 2006 by U2 lead singer Bono and Bobby Shriver in order to drive corporate donations to the fight against AIDS. The additional funding from Bank of America will help (RED) surpass a quarter billion dollars raised.
Of the more than $240 million generated by (RED), 100 percent has gone directly to the Global Fund for on-the-ground services, with no overhead taken out by (RED). (RED) and its partners are united in a global push to end mother-to-child transmission of the deadly HIV virus by 2015, in accordance with the UN Millennium Development Goals.
U2 are expected to release a new album later this spring; the set has been produced by Danger Mouse and recorded primarily at New York's Electric Lady Studios.
