David Bowie won Best Male Solo Artist honors at the BRIT Awards in London Wednesday night.
Supermodel Kate Moss was on hand at the 02 Arena to receive the award on Bowie’s behalf; Moss was wearing an original Ziggy Stardust tour stage outfit first worn by the singer on August 19, 1972 at the The Rainbow in North London.
Kate read out Bowie’s acceptance speech, which went as follows...
“In Japanese myth, the rabbits on my old costume that Kate’s wearing actually live on the moon, Kate comes from Venus and I'm from Mars. So that's nice!! I’m completely delighted to have a BRIT for being the best male. But I am, aren't I Kate? I think it's a great way to end the day. Thank you very, very much. Scotland please stay with us.”
Bowie’s reference to Scotland is over the country’s current debate over its possible independence, which will be held to a nationwide vote on September 18.
Bowie’s 2013 release, “The Next Day”, delivered the singer his first UK number 1 album in 20 years.
