Van Halen: 30th anniversary of 1984 featured on In The Studio

The 30th anniversary of Van Halen’s “1984” is featured on this week’s edition of North American rock radio series In The Studio.

Eddie and Alex Van Halen and bassist Michael Anthony join host Redbeard to discuss the making of one of the band’s most successful albums.

“1984” produced Van Halen’s first No. 1 single, “Jump”, and went on to sell more than 12 million copies in the U.S. alone – 3 million copies were sold in the first 3 months of its release in January 1984.

The album featured smash singles and videos for “Panama” and “Hot For Teacher”, making Van Halen an MTV staple with a dynamic style that would be copied by others throughout the years.

“1984” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, denying Van Halen their first No. 1 record – all due to the ongoing sales success of the biggest-selling album in music history in its sales prime – Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, which, ironically, Eddie played on (the solo to “Beat It”).
