The Eurythmics will reunite for “The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles", a TV special airing next month to mark the 50th anniversary of The Beatles debut on the Ed Sullivan Show.
Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart – who have not performed together since 2005 – are among the first list of performers revealed for the special, set to air on CBS on February 9 at 8 PM ET/PT.
Joining The Eurythmics are John Mayer, Keith Urban, Maroon 5, John Legend and Alicia Keys – with more to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Beatles' first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964 is one of the most watched television events ever — with 74 million people tuning in to watch the group perform five songs during the variety hour. It is considered by many historians and critics as one of the most important moments in music and television.
On their Sullivan debut, The Beatles performed “All My Loving”, “Till There Was You”, “She Loves You”, “I Saw Her Standing There” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand.”
"The Beatles are one of music's most iconic groups, who won their first two Grammys, including one for Best New Artist, in 1964 — the same year they took America by storm," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "It's only fitting that we recognize this milestone moment in music history and pay tribute to this larger than life group and their enduring music and legacy."
