David Bowie’s 2013 comeback album, “The Next Day”, has received three Grammy Awards nominations ahead of next month’s event in Los Angeles.
“The Next Day” picked up nods for “Best Rock Album” and “Best Recording Package”, while the project’s second single, “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)”, earned a nomination for “Best Rock Performance.”
The 56th Annual Grammy Awards will be held January 26, 2014 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
Upon its release in March, “The Next Day” debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 album chart with opening week sales of 85,000.
Bowie’s first album in 10 years earned the singer his largest sales week for an album since SoundScan started tracking data in 1991 (Bowie's previous best SoundScan-era sales frame came when 2002's "Heathen" started with 55,000 at No. 14.).
"The Next Day" is Bowie's seventh top 10 album. He last logged a top 10 way back in 1983 with the No. 4-peaking "Let's Dance." Bowie's previous highest-charting album had been 1976's "Station to Station", which spent two weeks at No. 3.
The album also delivered Bowie his first UK number 1 album in 20 years.
The singer has just reissued his 2013 project as “The Next Day Extra”, a 3-disc set that includes the original 14-track CD a 10-track CD of bonus tracks and a DVD of the four promotional films made for the record: “Where Are We Now?”, “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)”, “The Next Day” and “Valentine’s Day.”
