Bruce Springsteen has released a lyric video for “High Hopes”, the lead single and title track from his forthcoming album of the same name due January 14.
Directed by Thom Zimny, the video is a collage featuring photos from Danny Clinch, Australian tour footage shot by Chris Hilson and featuring Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, vintage documentary footage, text and graphics.
Bruce’s 18th studio album was recorded in New Jersey, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Australia and New York City, with the bulk of the tracks produced by Ron Aniello and Springsteen, some by Brendan O’Brien, and the rest a combination of the three together.
“High Hopes” includes the members of the E Street Band as well as Morello and many additional players.
Morello joined Springsteen and the E Street Band on tour in Australia in March, 2013 (sitting in for Steve Van Zandt), and became, as Springsteen says, "my muse, pushing the rest of this project to another level."
Besides his guitar playing on the album, Morello also duets with Springsteen on his 1995 track, "The Ghost of Tom Joad" (which Rage Against The Machine also released in 1997). Saxophonist Clarence Clemons, who passed away in 2011, and multi-instrumentalist Danny Federici, who passed away in 2008, also appear on several songs of what Springsteen calls "some of our best unreleased material from the past decade."
A limited edition of “High Hopes” is available via Amazon; the CD/DVD set includes a live DVD of Bruce and the E Street Band performing the entire "Born In The U.S.A." album in London, England during the Wrecking Ball World Tour. This version will be available for a limited time only and can be pre-ordered here.
Following the album’s release in January, Springsteen will perform in South Africa for the very first time before kicking off a month-long tour of Australia and New Zealand in Perth on February 5.
