A Michigan man has been arrested after a failed break-in attempt at Kid Rock’s home, which led the rocker to offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
The Detroit Free Press reports the suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending his expected arraignment on Monday, is at the Oakland County Jail, according to a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested at his home Saturday morning, according to the sheriff’s office, which had received two tips about the man through its dispatch center.
The man’s 1994 Ford Club Wagon van, which he used to try to force open Rock’s gated driveway, has been impounded, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Saturday.
The attempted break-in at the Independence Township home infuriated Rock, who had posted an online message for the man earlier this week: “Don’t Mess With A MF Like Me.”
Those words were posted Friday on the singer’s website, along with security camera images showing a man on crutches and a van.
According to the sheriff’s office, someone used a van to ram a gate on Kid Rock’s property around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and then tried to break into a building on the property. The singer, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, was offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
“Thank God I was not on the property at the time of this attempted break in,” posted Rock on Friday. “I am an avid hunter and marksman and I will not hesitate to shoot anyone who has myself or family in fear for our lives. I take the invasion of my personal space very seriously regardless of who you are.”
There’s no word, yet, if the tips received by police that resulted in the suspect’s arrest were a result of Rock’s reward offer.
Rock is currently on a summer tour in support of his latest album, “Rebel Soul”.
