Paul McCartney was joined by Nirvana members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear Friday night at his Out There tour stop in Seattle.
KXRO reports the former Beatle brought the Nirvana members out for his encore to perform a set of songs including their original collaboration “Cut Me Some Slack” (from the Sound City soundtrack), along with Beatles gems “Get Back”, “Long Tall Sally”, “Helter Skelter” and the show closer, the “Golden Slumbers” medley.
Initially reported as rumor early in the day, this special appearance with the ex-Nirvana members soon became the worst kept secret in Western Washington as Grohl and Novaselic frequently walked through the crowd before the show high-fiving concert go-ers and smiling widely, sending social media into a frenzy.
During the show, the over 45,000 in attendance reveled in a 39 song Beatles-heavy setlist including such fan favorites as “Let It Be”, “Hey Jude”, “Day Tripper”, “All My Loving” and first time addition so his solo show, “Eight Days A Week.”
The Nirvana members originally teamed up with McCartney last fall to record “Cut Me Some Slack” for Grohl’s Sound City film and soundtrack. The pairing debuted the new song at the 12-12-12 Sandy Relief concert in New York – watch that performance here.
