Black Star Riders - the new band formed from the final Thin Lizzy lineup – are sharing details of how the group chose their new band name.
After touring the past few years as Thin Lizzy, the lineup adopted the new band name last fall to start recording a new album with a clean slate, and out of respect to the legacy of the late Phil Lynott.
“It’s a tough thing to name a band, certainly in the strange situation that we’d just come out of,” explains singer Ricky Warwick. “We knew we needed something that was a little bit different, a very strong kind of anthemic name, something that summed up the gang mentality.”
Based on the band’s common interest in western films, Warwick turned to 1993’s “Tombstone” (starring Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer and others) for inspiration…and he found it.
