The Rolling Stones will premiere an expanded version of their 1965 tour film, “Charlie Is My Darling – Ireland ‘65,” at the 50th New York Film Festival later this month.
In 1965, Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham asked filmmaker Peter Whitehead (The Fall, Tonite Let's All Make Love in London) to accompany the band on a quick tour of Ireland.
Whitehead was astonished...not only by the incredible power of the Stones’ performances, but especially by the raw energy of the crowds of young people that rushed them everywhere.
This new version of this behind-the scenes diary of the early Stones has never been seen; Mick Gochanour and Robin Klein, the team that brought The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus to the screen, have painstakingly restored over 90,000 frames of optical screen prints and negative, going back to the original sound tapes and 3-track live recordings.
Included are electrifying performances of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “The Last Time,” and “Time is on My Side.”
“Charlie Is My Darling” is billed as an invaluable document featuring the unseen story of the Stones becoming the legend.
The documentary will debut on September 29th – featuring a Q&A with Andrew Loog Oldham - with an encore showing on October 3rd; both screenings will take place at New York City's Walter Reade Theater.

The 92 Street Y in New York will host a screening on October 5, which will feature a conversation between Oldham and Steven Van Zandt – for details and to order tickets, click here.
The band will issue the film as part of their 50th Anniversary projects on November 6th; the director's cut, the producer's cut and this new 2012 version will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and as part of a Super Deluxe Box Set.
