The Red Hot Chili Peppers rocked Lollapalooza at the end of a chaotic Saturday for concertgoers in Chicago.
The festival site was evacuated mid-day due to severe thunderstorms and, as the Chicago Tribune reports, organizers alerted fans about the threatening conditions via stage announcements, video screens, and social media: the Lollapalooza smartphone app, facebook and twitter.
The first evacuation in Lollapalooza’s eight-year Grant Park history leads to a festival report that more than 60,000 people and 3,000 staff, artists and vendors were evacuated in 38 minutes.
After a 2.5 hour delay, the palooza was back on, and gates re-opened to the public, who would return to see acts on several stages before the Peppers closed out the evening.
