Rush’s new album, “Clockwork Angels,” has debuted at the top of the Canadian charts.
The project enjoyed first week sales in excess of 19,600 in the band’s homeland, marking Rush’s first #1 debut for a studio album in the SoundScan era.
Stateside, “Clockwork Angels” entered the Billboard 200 albums chart at #2, with sales of 103,000 copies.
Lyrically, the album chronicles a young man’s quest across a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy as he attempts to follow his dreams. The story features lost cities, pirates, anarchists, an exotic carnival, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life.
The novelization of the album is being written by science fiction writer Kevin J. Anderson in collaboration with Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, and will be released this September.
