White has set himself up with two touring bands: one all-female, the other, all-male. Jack is taking both lineups on the road and, according to a recent New York Times story, only one band will perform each night – but White won’t tell them which one is hitting the stage until the morning of the show. The former White Stripes man reportedly also barred the groups from listening to each other during rehearsals so that they could evolve separately with him.
Fast forward to the past week or so, as White – with both bands in tow – have been hitting the media circuit to spread the word about his debut solo album, “Blunderbuss.”
Last week, on German TV, the groups performed “Sixteen Saltines” (female) and “Freedom At 21” (male). Watch the video here.
This week, White brought his two-band show to the BBC’s Later With Jools Holland program. The same two tracks were performed live but, this time, White reversed the order, so the male group did “Sixteen Saltines” while the ladies did “Freedom At 21.”
White kicks off a series of US dates that begin Friday at New York’s Webster Hall.
