Pink Floyd’s 1973 masterpiece, “The Dark Side Of The Moon,” has reached a new milestone on the US charts.
Currently sitting at #137 on this week’s Billboard 200, the music industry magazine reports the album has extended its record-setting run to 800 weeks on the chart – roughly the equivalent of about 15 years and five months.
Floyd’s chart record is far ahead of the second place album in this category, “Johnny’s Greatest Hits” by Johnny Mathis – which clocks in at 490 weeks.
Floyd's numbers should be more, in theory, but Billboard changed the way it calculated its charts along the way.
“Dark Side” was not on the Billboard 200 between the chart weeks of October 8, 1988 and December 12, 2009, when the company shifted from a current-based chart to one including albums of all ages, regardless of initial release date.
