Van Halen’s new album, “A Different Kind Of Truth,” is already out in some parts of the world and will be, in North America, on Tuesday.
VH played their second media showcase at a gig in Los Angeles on Wednesday for about 250 media and music industry types; last month, the band played a rare club show in New York at the legendary Café Wha? for a similar purpose…to create a buzz.
Last fall, VH signed a new deal with Interscope Records, following more than 30 years with Warner Brothers Records.
Interscope/Universal have stepped up to promote the new release in public ways: on New Year’s Eve, the album’s cover art was displayed on a billboard in Times Square, seen by the million people on site that evening plus many more millions watching the coverage on TV.
Now, the label has taken out a full-size building ad on the side of The Andaz Hotel on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.
With its proximity to the Sunset Strip, The Andaz has quite a rock history: it was formerly known as the Continental Hyatt House, and earned the nickname “Riot House” when it became the preferred accommodation in Los Angeles for traveling rock bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who and the Rolling Stones.
VH have released a timelapse video of the ad being put together.
