More than 55,000 fans have signed the online petition (here), helping the Canadian rockers make more headlines as they launch their new album, “Here And Now,” this week.
The petition reads, as follows:
This game is nationally televised, do we really want the rest of the US to associate Detroit with Nickelback? Detroit is home to so many great musicians and they chose Nickelback?!?!?! Does anyone even like Nickelback? Is this some sort of ploy to get people to leave their seats during halftime to spend money on alcoholic beverages and concessions? This is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game. At least the people watching at home can mute their TVs. The Lions ought to think about their fans before choosing such an awful band to play at halftime.
Now, Nickelback have filmed a skit about the Detroit situation.
The video, on humor site Funny or Die, finds the band meeting with comedian Paul Scheer ("The League") as a music executive trying to help the band find a solution to the problem.
"Let's give Motor City that Motown sound they love," Scheer offers the rockers. "You're no longer Nickelback - now you're the Four Nickels. We'll put you guys in matching suits. You'll do synchronized dancing."
