The Rolling Stones respond to 50th Anniversary tour question

These days, the Rolling Stones are talking 1978, while fans want to know about 2012.

The band is doing some press to promote the November 21 release of two “Some Girls” projects: a reissue of the 1978 album, complete with a bonus disc containing 12 tracks from the original sessions; and, "Some Girls Live in Texas 1978" on DVD and Blu-ray.

While discussing the upcoming releases, the guys are being asked the inevitable questions about regrouping…and whether or not they’ll put together a 2012 tour to mark their 50th Anniversary.

And those questions are only going to grow louder in the coming months, especially since Keith Richards recently told Rolling Stone magazine that he will meet up with Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts in a London studio later this month.

"We're just going to play a little together, because we haven't played for three or four years," Keith explains. "You don't necessarily want to rehearse or write anything – you just want to touch bases. That's a good start: me, Charlie and Ronnie. Mick's welcome, and I'm sure he'll turn up, but right now we just want to get our chops down."

All four members – including Mick Jagger – comment on a tour inquiry in a new session with The Guardian.

Wood says he's having a long overdue operation next month to fix a cracked bone in his foot "so I'm ready for action next year, just in case." In case of a tour? "Fifty years!" he shrieks. "It's got to be done."

"I would like to think we'd do a tour,” says Charlie. “Um, if we don't, we don't. I mean, I've felt like that for the last 50 years. It's never bothered me if the Rolling Stones stopped tomorrow."

"I've no idea," says the non-committal Jagger. "We don't really get together that much as a group."

And what about Richards? Can he envisage a reunion tour? "Envisage?" he guffaws. "Yeah. I dream of it."
