The NYC band brought out Jarvis Cocker of Pulp to perform a cover of The Cars’ classic, “Just What I Needed,” but…as the video shows…the band didn’t know the song very well – at least singer Julian Casablancas didn’t - and they fumbled through it in front of a packed house.
All was not lost as the Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi did a solid job nailing the solo, originally played by Elliott Easton.
Casablancas introduced Cocker onstage by saying: "We love and respect them, give it up for Pulp. And here he is, the Jarv, please welcome Mr Jarvis Cocker."
Pulp performed just prior to the Strokes’ closing set; Sunday night they will flip the order when the two bands play the Leeds Festival.
