Metallica: Lars Ulrich cast in Nicole Kidman film

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich is stepping out from behind his drum kit and stepping onto the small screen.

NYmag.com reports HBO has cast Ulrich in "Hemingway And Gellhorn," starring Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen.

Directed by Philip Kaufman and set to be televised in 2011, the TV film tells the story of one of America’s most famous literary couples, Ernest Hemingway (Owen) and Martha Gellhorn (Kidman). The story begins in 1936 when the pair first met in a bar in Florida; he was already a famous writer and she was one of the greatest war correspondents of the 20th Century.

Ulrich will play Dutch documentarian Joris Ivens in the TV movie, which will follow the couple's relationship from the time they met in 1936 through the time they spent together in the Spanish Civil War.

David Strathairn, Parker Posey and Tony Shalhoub have been added to the cast, as well.
