Season 10 contestant James Durbin brought some metal to the proceedings on Tuesday night’s show with a hell-raising cover of the Judas Priest classic, “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming.”
Durbin is the lone metal singer in the pack, with a vocal range and style comparable to that of Priest’s Rob Halford, so the song was a solid fit.
Durbin’s ability to nail a sonic scream is undeniable and, during his performances on the show this season, he’s managed to use that vocal tool tastefully without overkill.
Tuesday’s program featured the 12 male semi-finalists performing, for the first time, before a studio audience.
Following a standing ovation from the crowd, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler told him, “James, that was crazy f**king good! I love it that you’re over the top. Always have. You’re the greatest.”
