Iron Maiden win first Grammy

Stop the presses: UK metal masters Iron Maiden have won a Grammy.

And not just a Grammy, their first Grammy.

“El Dorado,” from the band’s 2010 release “The Final Frontier,” picked up the honors for “Best Metal Performance” at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, which took place in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Maiden are on the road and were unable to be on hand to pick up the prize in person; they beat out Slayer, Megadeth, Korn and Lamb Of God to win the category.

The 2011 Final Frontier dates are underway, with shows in The Far East this week before a series of dates on the Shockwave Festival in Australia begin later this month.

Artisan News reported the Grammy news, and played tape of singer Bruce Dickinson talking about “El Dorado.”
