Bret Michaels to be released from hospital Wednesday

Bret Michaels will be sidelined for while, but things seem to be according to plan following his heart surgery on Monday.

Radaronline reports Michaels will be released from St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center on Wednesday.

Doctors have ordered the Poison frontman to ‘totally rest’ as he starts to recover from his heart surgery.

A family source told RadarOnline.com: “The operation went well and he is due to be released from hospital tomorrow. His spirits are good and the doctors all said Bret was a ‘real fighter’ with the spirit he has shown. But they have ordered him to take it easy and totally rest as he tries to recover in the coming weeks. They told Bret not to take work calls and stuff like that - just to concentrate on getting better. However, everybody is really happy with the way that the surgery went, and all the signs are good.”

Monday's procedure was a preventative measure doctors decided to take in hopes of reducing the risk of the rocker suffering from blood clots or further strokes, which he's more susceptible to with the hole in his heart.

In the procedure, doctors inserted a catheter into a vein in Michaels' groin, and guided wires into his heart, as well as a closure device that will remain there permanently. The device, doctors said, should cease abnormal blood flow between the two chambers of the singer's heart.
