Slash talks Jimi Hendrix on Later with Jools Holland

During last week’s U.K./European media blitz, Slash stopped by for an interview session of Later with Jools Holland.

Naturally, the conversation covered Slash’s solo album, which picked up Album Of The Year at the 2010 Classic Rock “Roll Of Honour” Awards in London last Wednesday night.

When asked by Jools about his guitar heroes, Slash said, “Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Mick Taylor…there’s a bunch of them…Jimmy page…all those guys.”

Hendrix was the top of Slash’s list. “Jimi was just the guy that was, really, the electric guitar sound of my childhood,” said Slash. “It is still, to this day, probably the most searing, solo virtuoso lead rock n’ roll guitar. It made a big impression on me when I was little, and it stuck with me all the way to this day.”

Slash narrated the film, “Jimi Hendrix: Guitar Hero,” which features rockers like Eric Clapton and Lemmy, among others, celebrating the impact Jimi left on those who were there, and those who have followed since.

The BBC aired a 50-minute version this past September, and the full film will be available December 15.

The DVD is part of a special package, presented by Classic Rock Magazine, which includes a poster, a 90-minute movie and a companion magazine.
