There was a sense that something was happening with Peter Frampton in 1975; after years of touring, Frampton had been building a steady and loyal following, and things were falling into place for the ex-Humble Pie guitarist.
So, when Frampton and crew headed into San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom in June to record the show that would eventually make up the bulk of 1976’s massive “Frampton Comes Alive” release, they were on fire, in sync, and blew away a highly energetic crowd. Other shows were recorded for the live set, including gigs in San Rafael, CA, Long Island, NY and Plattsburgh, NY.
The 1975 tour was in support of Frampton’s self-titled fourth album, which featured tracks like “Show Me The Way” and “Baby, I Love Your Way.” The work was paying off, as “Frampton” became his first hit album in North America, going Top 40 and earning gold status.
Although “Frampton Comes Alive” wasn’t released until January of ’76, it was really the document of the ’75 experience.
Thankfully, part of the ’75 Frampton experience was captured live for The Midnight Special, which caught the band in full flight. Frampton was featured on two separate MS shows, one in September and another in December.
One of the great things about the way The Midnight Special was produced, was that it allowed performers to play their material in its entirety, so check out the full-length version of “Do You Feel Like We Do" and try to tell me that live music television gets any better than that.
